*National Widow's Day was created on May 3, 2014, by Widow Wednesday organization as a day of recognition of widows. Widow Wednesday is a 501c3 non-profit founded in 2012 by Jimmy Chouteau, with the goal of assisting widows and widowers in the Kansas City area.  Their goal is to connect and build relationships with the widows in our community, sharing God’s love and care for them in visible, practical ways.

**International Widow's Day was established by The Loomba Foundation to raise awareness of the issue of widowhood. The significance of June 23 is that it was on that day in 1954 that Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, mother of the foundation's founder, Lord Loomba, became a widow.
